Liverpool–and the Dalai Lama in Manchester

The flight to Liverpool was uneventful – I got into town, found the hostel, sent some e-mails, and turned in for the night.

Love the name.

Sunday I went for a run in the rain, running near but not realizing I missed Sefton Park. Coming back drenched, I showered, had breakfast, and caught a train to Manchester.

At the Manchester Arena I saw the Dalai Lama speak and answer questions from the audience. I can’t reproduce the value of his messages of compassion, peace, and change, which was quite meaningful and valuable. It was a great experience! And I got to get a bit of a feel for Manchester. Pictures weren’t allowed during the event so I have only a picture from after the Dalai Lama left.

Back in Liverpool I wandered the port area then went to the Cavern Club, where the Beatles first began playing, to listen to some live music. The venue isn’t the original, which was destroyed years ago, but is apparently rebuilt to be exactly like the original. It was a cool venue with arches roofs, very much deserving of its name.

My fulfilling time in Liverpool and Manchester was limited – and Monday I hopped on a train to London for a few days.
